[2002-04-22] Three Essential Elements of Building a Website Community-And Sales Developing a sense of community among visitors is now essential for ecommerce success. Community-that sense of belonging to a particular interest group or market niche-fosters the credibility a site needs to get repeat visits...and sales.
[2002-04-18] Web Traffic and Your Bottom Line Most companies that have websites have access to traffic statistics, usually provided by their web host. Those that don't look at these files (or use a bargain basement web hosting company that doesn't provide them) don't know what they are missing- there is a wealth of information to be found, and reacting to this information can have a positive impact on a company's bottom line. What follows are some of the most basic stats that are typically available, followed by brief suggestions on how to use the information.
[2002-04-17] License Fees vs. Linux Hype: and the Winner is... Don't Believe the FUD ... or the Hype
While Microsoft spreads fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) over free software, the advocates often oversell community software on pure enthusiasm; there are truths on both sides. You can't blame the geeks who laboured years without recognition, budgets or marketing: By their ideas alone, whole governments are now choosing their work over wares honed by the world's richest vendors! Between the FUD and the hype, there are community alternatives for most business needs, but there are also rough edges.
[2002-04-16] How to Conduct an Effective Web Conference Web conferencing is a forum for interactive presentations that span one-to-one meetings, internal conferences, team meetings and public seminars. Instead of jumping on a plane or driving across town, you can invite your audience to a web conference instead.
Over the last 5 years web conferencing has experienced explosive growth and the reason is clear: web conferencing not only reduces travel costs and hassles, but makes communication faster and more effective. In the aftermath of 9/11 companies are even more closely scrutinizing their travel requirements. Web conferencing can be used for a wide variety of applications including new product launches, sales presentations, training, software/product demonstrations, financial updates, marketing events and much more. The possibilities are virtually endless.
[2002-04-15] The Power of Eloans and Mortgages If you will be needing a loan or mortgage, there is no greater way to shop and compare prices than online. One of the great benefits of the Internet is letting the average consumer (like you and me) share information like we've never been able to before! We can shop and more importantly, compare, the prices and services of all kinds of financial services in detail. There are many good providers of "eloans" online. So who are the major online players in loans and mortgages? Research firm Media Metrix recently listed the top financial information sites based on "impressions". At the top of that list was MoneyNest.com which operates an online financial marketplace that enables consumers to shop online for a variety of financial products. Moneynest.com sums up the one key thing about online loans and mortgages - it places the power in your hands. You no longer have to feel insecure about not having enough excellent information at your fingertips or about trusting "your" bank and wondering if you got the best deal possible. The Internet places all this power at your fingertips.
[2002-04-08] Online Surveys To Know How Your Customers Are Feeling We have been here before. Sales are dipping and business as a whole is slowing down without any warning or any visible reason. What could be causing this situation? We do everything right and follow proven tactics to keep business moving. What else can be done? The only way to find out what is going on is to ask those that are responsible for business slowing up, your customers.
[2002-04-05] Showing and Hiding HTML elements using Layers A long time back I visited a site that had a very fancy, animated navigation bar. Now, as a professional web developer, I'm not in favor of DHTML-supported, fancy navigation bars, but it was very fascinating. What they had done was, whenever you hovered your cursor over a link, a big, comics-type dialog balloon appeared to give further details of that link. I wondred how they did it, but then it slipped out of my mind.
